How to Get the Most Out of Your Handcrafted Soap

One question that I am asked frequently is how long a bar of my soap will last.
Unfortunately, there just isn't a simple answer to that question. There are just so many variables to consider, including how many people are using the soap, where it's stored, what kind of water you have, and even how much body hair you have! Here are some tips for making sure that you get as much out of your handcrafted soap as possible.

  • Do dry your soap out between uses. This will help the bar of soap to last as long as possible!
  • Don't let your soap sit in a pool of water or in a non-draining soap dish. It could turn mushy or slimy on the surfaces that are immersed in water over time, and nobody wants that!
  • Do use a draining soap dish to help your bar of artisan soap drip dry, and allow for air circulation for drying.

If you need some suggestions on lovely soap dishes that add to the cool factor of your bathroom decor (and coordinate well with your Emily's Handmade Soaps), I highly recommend checking out Howells Natural Wood Products for handmade wooden soap dishes that are inexpensive and versatile, or BPR Designs for hand crafted fused glass soap dishes that are as stylish as they are functional. Better yet, pick up one of each and alternate your shower soaps. After all, they say that variety is the spice of life!
